I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist in Great Britain and a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), the Czech Society for Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (ČSKBT), and the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT).
After completing my studies in Neuroscience (BSc in Neuroscience at Sussex University, MSc in Neurological Science and PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London) and having worked in brain research for four years at Hamburg University, I decided to reorient my career towards Clinical Psychology, completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP, King’s College London).
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also use the Schema Therapy, the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) models. I have worked over 18 years in public health (British NHS), at six universities, and in private practice in Prague.
My current work focuses on individual therapy for adults. I specialise in affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorder, dysthymia, cyclothymia…), anxiety disorders (generalised anxiety, health anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder…), intrapersonal difficulties (self-esteem, decision-making, problem-solving, habits…), interpersonal difficulties (in intimate relationships, family, at work, personality disorders…), and recovery from traumatic experiences (post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder…). I also have experience treating psychological typical difficulties among the expat population. In addition, I can provide complex psychological diagnostic evaluations.
I am myself an expat. I was born (1973) and raised in Spain. I have lived in various European countries. I have travelled widely, experiencing diverse ways of living and thinking. Life has often challenged me and I have learnt to see these challenges as opportunities to grow and widen my understanding of the world and of human nature.
My therapeutic style is open, empathic, and non-judgemental. I aim to create a safe environment in order to increase the client’s level of comfort. I offer active listening, gentle confrontation, and I encourage the client to uncover their own biases and strengths, to self-reflect, to explore their values and priorities, to reach their own conclusions, and to plan their future consciously. I follow the client’s pace and provide structure and continuity within and between sessions. I always remain open to the client’s feedback so as to continuously adapt the therapeutic process to their needs.
I am a mother, daughter, sister, partner, friend. I devote my free time to socialising, cooking, reading, writing (see my blog in the Home section of this page), yoga, meditation, film and music.
